Watched this DVD a couple nights ago. Hadn't seen it since I saw it in the theater, and it was pretty much as I remembered. Solid performances by Bill Macy and Maria Bello and a great performance by William Baldwin. (Interesting how Baldwin puts in so many worthy performances as a supporting actor, yet none of his brothers can act worth a sh@t.) The Cooler moves right along until the last 1/3, where it starts to drag. I don't know if its gets predictable, or just boring, but I (again) found myself losing interest during the last 1/2 hour or so. This is exactly what I recall from seeing it in the theater - and perhaps the lag at the film's end is one of the reasons The Cooler did not fare so well at the box office? I don't think my diminished interest near the end had much to do with the somber and somewhat depressing of the movie, but more with the arc of the story.Anyone have any thoughts on this flick?
