I noticed the turkey carving too.However, I think the electric knife was meant to convey the different sensibilities the two families had. The electric knife, a poor man's luxury; the other family's home, well-appointed.
Perhaps the incorrect turkey carving was by design. Here we have a nice home, the right dinnerware etc. The patriarchs, on the other hand, do not know how to carve properly.
Follows the main theme of the film: Fathers should know how to carve, ranch hands should be good at shooting, men should act like men. However, everything is broken in this film.
The unfinished beer left on the table? Bad editing ; )
