Yes, the wires were discussed by Dante,Burns and Warren in their
commentary, and in 'The Making of TWOTWs' featurette, I believe. The
wires not only held up the ships, but were attached to manipulate
electronics gear inside. The DVD does bring them out with clarity,
but I never noticed them on my first big screen viewing in 1953 at
age 5(understandable,I suppose) and over the years on my VHS copy, which has softer resolution.
Will have to play that VHS tape and see how discernable they are, now
that I'm aware of them. Only learned of them a while back via the
WOTWs discussion board at www.imdb.com. Have a friend, age 32, who watched my DVD
on a 51" screen recently for first time and he didn't notice them. Think, like me, he was
too mesmerized by those menacing craft to notice! ~AH
