A little claustrophobic, film entirely in Cinecitta, the then Italy´s Hollywood, got a price for the decors and was generally well received around the globe.
Maria Schell does a fine performance, but very sixty, Jean Marais more wooden than wood, and Marcello excellent as always.
A good solid story about the vicissitude of life and particulary about the hazard of love.
On the side a bit of social critic too, if I may say so...
Just one more humanistic Italian film, not the best, but still very enjoyable.
Sometimes music and theme reminded me of Hitchcocks Spellbound.
