He said he'd recuse himself from any case involving Vanguard (he didn't use all the caveats like some here use in arguing that he didn't lie) and he did not; he said he doesn't recall being a member of a radical conservative campus group (strange, Bruce attended the same school, wasn't a member, but remembers it very, very well); he said he has no particular opinion about abortion but a memo he wrote several years ago (to get himself a job) includes a careful strategy to overturn Roe v Wade.
There are more inconsistencies but the seriousness of these three are enough to sink him.
Bush won the election, fair and square and I don't begrudge him chosing. If Alito wouldn't have such a problem with telling the truth, I'd support him. I don't care if a candidate supports Roe v Wade or not, actually--- if he or she is a Republican appointment. Lack of character, however, shouldn't be given a "pass."
