...and I think The Silence is a masterpiece, it is neither surprising nor disappointing to me that it isn't to everyone's taste. On the other hand, among others, Summer with Monica, Wild Strawberries, Sawdust and Tinsel (Naked Night), Fanny & Alexander, and for me most especially Persona, are films that I think operate at such a high level that it would surprise me if anyone dubbed them pretentious. Not that it hasn't happened...
