Saw it last weekend with my wife, her 12 year old brother, and her 6 year old nephew, at an MJR theater.Average 3d animation, about what you'd see on a well animated TV show. The water was crazy, they must have broke the bank on the particle systems plugin for their copy of Maya.
Voice talent was pretty good, the actors seemed to have fun getting into their roles.
The plot was shaky, standard throwaway budget kid's flick fare. Basically, it's a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, told through each of the character's point of view, done in a police drama interrogation scene-style. It's sort of clever, but seems thrown together in many spots, and the evil villian ending, though fairly amusing, seemed tacked-on and obvious.
The Woodsman's and Wolf's stories were pretty good. The Wolf is basically Fletch, down to the Faltermeyer-esque soundtrack, jogging sweatshirt and Laker's jersey. The Woodsman is an awful struggling actor, who moonlights driving a bizzare schnitzel-dispensing truck. Red's story is boring (except for a bit with a singing billy goat, which was rather funny,) and Grandma's story is over the top and silly (it's a sendup of XXX, ugh.)
The 12 year old seemed to like some of it, the 8 year old was confused by most of it. There were enough really funny bits to make a good 30 minute short, at 1.2 hours it drags quite a bit. The rest of the audience, mostly kids, seemed to like at least some of it. If you want to see it, wait to rent it.
Score: 50/100
