I have a friend who worked as assistant to the Genereal secretary of the National Council OF Civil Liberties in Britain and as part of that job she read the whole thing.
The treatment of women (amongst other things) is not a commandment and is not supported by anyone othr than those who either have a deep mysogeny or haqve been subjected to the partial learning that seems to occur in certain parts of the world.
Its a bit like the far right in AMerica who will quote parts of the bible while shooting it out with the police or bombing abortion clinics.
Its about something other than religion. BUt it beats me what it is about.
