Gene Tierney, Rex Harrison, and George Sanders at his slimiest star in this wonderful tale of a turn of the century widow who moves into a seaside cottage haunted by Harrison, a former sea captain accidently killed (but who people believe committed suicide). Along the way he dictates a memoir and she sells it to a publisher. Though in love with Harrison, she takes up with Sanders, a con man who writes children's books. She finds out he is married and lives the rest of her life alone, with Harrison in the background. A beautiful score by Bernard Herrman adds to the charm of the film. I posted here recently that I am a late comer to this classic but have become a big fan.
