The 1994 Russian/French film, based on a novel by a somewhat famous Russian writer Yevgeni Zamyatin, that could probably be justly called Crime and Punishment Light, continues the unfortunate string of depressing films of the week.Starting with the two Italian works, then continuing through the marvelously beautiful and haunting Tony Takitani, The Flood represent a natural extension, a final stroke, throwing its dark and brooding blanket over what remaining sun light there might still had been...
Isabelle is wonderful in that horrific work, and the supporting Russian crew are doing their best, with result being a bone-chilling horror film, not the teenage slasher, mind you, but a deep psychological drama.
I know there are those among us who enjoy venturing into the darkest corners of sick human minds, so to them The Flood (Navodnenie) would undoubtedly represent a treat... like a fresh bite of blood to a vampire...
Still recommended for broader audience, albeit not a good family viewing.
