I anticipate this film will be hated by many people who hold the comics in high regard. Not being an X-Men aficionado I watched this purely as a movie, and liked it.
I am not looking for great characterisation or a deep story in this sort of film. What I want is entertainment, and an internally consistent logic, especially motivation - which I think this provides. In addition there are is a storyline that does point at some real moral dilemmas.
On of the things I like about this series of films is that there are enough characters that you CAN actually kill some off. This adds some real tension, that is missing from films such as Spiderman, Batman, Superman et al.
This is where the X-Men comic lovers I am sure will take exception. Undoubtedly some of the plot decisions taken in this film will cut across well loved character arcs.
My eldest daughter (15) has read a number of the X-Men comics. She did object to some of the choices made but still enjoyed the movie.
I had concerns at the appointment of Ratner, but I must say I think he has done a good job; especially in view of the constraints placed upon him by the studio.
Worth a watch.
