This is a great little film for any number of reasons... its gothic, funny, ludicrous, profound, touching, touching on the ludicrous and completely bonkers... but a very good way to spend a couple of hours.
And partly like a Mexican soap..
Tommy Lee Jones is all over the production and plays a cowboy who takes his friends corpse back to his home in Mexico.
There are sudden bursts of violence which are not pretty... which is how I think violence should be shown, ugly sickening.
The end where the idealising of Mexicans is turned over in favour (my reading) of saying people are the same everywhere is very effective.
The cinema was almost entirely empty.
My friend Bonnie said the horses were beautiful.
