This film pays reverential homage to the 1978 Donner film (the titles are identical and John Williams' music is adapted throughout, Brando is used as Jor El, Kent says "Swell", Kent is clumsy) as well as the traditional comic book features (Supe uses his x-ray vision, super hearing and super breath, Perry White says "Great Caesar's Ghost" and also refers to "Truth, Justice and... all that other stuff"). There are also subtler refernces to the earlier film, such as when Lois, her husband, and her child are imprisoned in a ship's pantry they are seen in the glass in a fashion identical to the prisoners in the Phantom Zone at the beginning of Donner's effort. Unlike many critics, I thought Spacey was a good Lex Luthor but agree that the Lois part (Kate Bosworth) was miscast. All in all an enjoyable romp with seamless special effects. I had no proble with its 180 minute length
