This is a remake of "All the Way Home", both based on James Agee's novel, which uses the title of the second film. Anabeth Gish stars in this new one. It's about the death of her husband in an automobile accident in Tennessee in 1915 and the effect it has upon her, her young son, her family, and her in-laws. Gish is a Catholic but her husband had not been baptized so the Church refuses to conduct the entire burial ceremony. I haven't seen the earlier film for many years (it's still not out on DVD at least in Region I) but it semms to mem that that one concentrated more on the anguish of the mother and son and her final letting go of holding him back. This new one kind of fizzles at the end with the boy's uncle giving him a life lesson. But Gish is splendid in this role. James Cromwell has a smallish part as her father-in-law.
