Apocalypse Now: The Complete Dossier

Did anybody pick this up last week? Circuit City had it for 12.99, and the CC version included a "third" bonus disc consisting of added scenes and expanded themes of Apoc Now Redux (w/ Coppola commentary); destruction of the Kurtz Compound (w/ and w/o commentary); and 1979 & 2001 trailers.

The two main criticisms of this reissue are 1) if its the complete dossier, why isn't Hearts of Darkness documentary included; and 2) the two versions of the movies are split over two discs.

While I would liked to have had HOD documentary, its absence doens't detract from the overall strengths of this version. On being split over two discs, I was initially upset about this, but the movies are split at the point of the intermission when these movies were shown theatrically; and 2) I presume the splitting enabled better PQ (higher bit-rate).

Considering how reasonably priced this issue is, and how "cool" the packaging is, I think it is a bargain. I've never been interested in extras, but some of these are quite interesting.

And I think it is safe to assume that this is the definitive DVD issue, especially since hi-rez video (blu-ray and HD-DVD) is starting to be released.

Since they simply don't make movies like this anymore, I highly recommended it. Enjoy.
