he has been effective in some roles however most notably Randall P. McMurphy and the Joker. Nicholson to me always portrays an element of mania in alot of the roles he chooses as an actor. To pull off that in a believable manner there needs to be an underlying element of truth in the performance....Remember the windshield beating with a golf club?=underlying element of truth....Crazy is as crazy does....
