Gloomy Sunday: "romantic melodrama" that compels . . .

A very stylish film set in 30's Budapest that tells the story of a beautiful woman, the two men she shares, the restaurant that becomes notable, and the magical song that brings that notarity.

Laszlo loves Ilona, Ilona likes him, Andreas arrives then composes and plays a magical tune that sets off suicides across Europe . . . But, that's only part of the story. Of the men who become enamoured of Ilona's beauty, one returns wearing a death's head as the Nazi's take over Budapest. Situations change, relationships change, and the end comes with a delightful twist.

This is not a happy movie but a compelling story told with flair. The cast is excellent and what I would consider "ensemble". All players are excellent, especially Laszlo and Ilona. Worth your time.
