Though filmed in 1955 this film was not shot in wide screen. William Holden stars as an ace Navy jet fighter pilot during the Korean War. Also based on his carrier are Mickey Rooney, a helicpoter ocean rescue pilot, and Fredric March, a Navy admiral using the carrier as his flag ship. Some scenes take place in an unconvincing Japan. Grace Kelly, in a relatively small part, plays Holdens's wife and they have two young daughters. The combat scenes are exciting, despite some cheaply done special effects. The film's climax is particularly well done. March has a speech about reservists being called up that is relavent today. Recommended.
