This is a live action version of the famous cartoon, starring Depardieu as Obelix and (oh god I loved this) Monica Bellucci as Cleopatra.
Yes its silly. Basically a lot of jokes about funny names.
But added to that are some very good fx. Full beautiful colours, great sets...
It would make a funny film when kids are bored on a rainy day.
And it has Bellucci in any number of ridiculous and ridiculously sexy dresses.

Its an enjoyable romp but don't go too far out of your way to see it. Rent it when you have everyone's kids over and apart from them all wanting to drink the magic potion, I think you will have a great time.
