this film about the rivalry between two magicians in late 19th century London stars Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Michael Caine and the hardest working cleavage in Hollywood, Scarlett Johansson and is directed by Christopher Nolan who made his name with Momento. Oh and David Bowie looking his age in a quite large supporting... oh you thought I was going to say corset but really I was going to say role.
While there is much to like in the film which is shown from different people's point of view and moving through time to keep you attentive, and it certainly helps to pay attention, I think the film thinks its cleverer than it is and could do with a course of David Mamet tablets to keep it regular.
But its good entertainment and even Scarlett's twins are on form in a series of Victorian corsets and other underwear ensembles, although for those extra dedicated fans, they disappointingly remain, or should I say pointedly remain covered.
I think that with Xmas now on the horizon, this one could make a good holiday viewing. I on the other hand saw it at lunchtime on a hot Saturday. Oddly I think the views of London are a bit of a letdown which always annoys me, but probably won't upset non-Londoners.
So its see it but don't make a fuss over it.
