In this unusual tale, jazz saxophonist Harvey Kietel is accidently shot and loses his musical ability. He meets a young fan played by Mira Sorvino. He later comes across a mysterious stone and brings it to her and under its spell they fall in love, age discrepancy notwithstanding. His horrible bad temper disapears and their life together becomes idyllic. Then he is kidnapped by mysterious thiugs (governement agents? mob members?) led by Willem Dafoe, who want the stone, which kietel will not surrender (i.e., he won't tell them where it is). In the meantime, Sorvino, who is acting in a movie part Kietel arranged for her, fails to show up after shooting for 12 days. Things get mystical from there. An interesting but puzzling movie which did hold my interest.
