Marco Bellocchio's "Fists in the Pocket." I've waited years to see this film

because I was scared it couldn't possibly live up to its reputation.
It doesn't.
It exceeds all encomium.
An Italian family in the sixties living in a picturesque town in the mountains settles in for the winter into their quotidian lives.
I cannot tell much more without ruining greatness.
Morriccone's score is brilliant and I only noticed it much the second time around: it builds and heightens suspense and mood without hitting you over the head.
The DVD is of excellent quality: the black and white photography of the countryside only is equalled in my memory by the equally lyrical "My Night At Maud's."
Be forewarned: this film had an impact in Europe in the mid-sixties similar to that of Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring" on the musical world early on in the same century: explosive.
Bernardo Bertolucci contributes an interesting commentary as an "extra."
If you haven't seen this film, you've missed a masterpiece.
