the slow-development not possible in film.
The story, ensemble acting, and general directorship are fine though Mirren does seem a bit bloodless in the role. I don't know as a woman quite that sweet-tempered would have succeeded so on a force as sexist as the one portrayed.
That being said, I suppose allowances could be made for the fact she recently separated from her husband of long-standing.
Anyhow, I can't think of a better tv production since the Smiley stuff.
