OK, directed by De Niro, I was a bit dubious and I thought the first hour... its nearly 3 hours long... was somewhere between disorganised and less than rivetting, but as the films separate elements seemed to pull together, I found myself more and more dragged into the story.
Not all perfect by a long way... The aging on Matt Damon and Angelina Jolie is ridiculous considering the film takes place over 20+ years. BY the end she looks as if she might have had a glass of wine too many the night before and he seems to have put an extra vest under his shirt. Otherwise they look the same age as their kid at the end of th film, and, as it edits back and forth, you really have to keep up as they seem unaffected by the passing decades.
But having said that, the second half passed in a flash and the vitality of the story of the development of the CIA and its move centre stage in US consciousness really quite impressed me.
No awards but maybe even one to see again.
