Taviani do not break any new grounds in their films, they produce solid films that touch you, but they are destined to remain in the second tier... which is not really a damnation given who occupies the top one. Silly, all that pigeonholing, but by comparison Olmi seems to bridge the gap substantially. But of course here we are discussing the different shades of good.
BTW... the Departed failed to show up. I guess Uncle Jack had hard night drinking or sometin. Wife was upset, started throwing dishes claiming I rearranged her queue... you know... women... always blame us men... turned out this marvel is on short availability list, there too many idiots like us who for whatever reason want to see it.
So I had to clean up broken dishes and instead spend the evening being tortured by the Intruder.
