This is a slightly odd, although mainly offbeat, coming of age film about a nearly 18 year boy in North London from a weirdly religious family and not just the vicar father... who takes a summer job helping a (mostly) retired actress played by Julie Walters in that way that she used to play the old cleaner although with a different accent and more wine...
The boy is suitably awkward and stilted and Walters really takes the main part of the film.
Nice soundtrack with stuff from John Renbourne and a lot from Sufjen Stevens, who must now be the official choice for soundtracks of dysfunctional families. A bit of Richard Thompson and a nice Nick Drake when our hero finally loses his virginity.
Not a great film but people were laughing out loud and I always take that as a good sign. They included me!
