There is plenty to like about the film. It is chock full of amazing scene compositions that can only be appreciated on a 50 foot tall movie theater screen. Travelling to the sun in full CGI glory makes for a real interesting premise that holds the tension 2/3rds of the way through. The last 1/3rd of the movie inexplicably devolves in to a lame ass supernatural slasher flick with a "saved the world" hollywood ending. It's an awkward change in the narrative which ruins the film as a whole.
As for philosophy, the "heavy thinking" issues posed were explored as far as 2 dimensional characters could take them, which is to say not very far to merit mentioning let alone painting the film as having a "philosophical tangent."
