THis 2006 version in French by Pascale Ferran is taken from the second version of the novel, of which I admit to being ignorant.
It is based in a vision (for Lady C an awakening vision) of nature or probably the natural world which is shown as positively Malick-ian with long lingering shots of trees and grass, flowers and birds.
In fact there are very clear political and class layers to this most impressive film clearly contrasting the capitalism of her husband with the "natural" life of the lover.
But these do not overwhelm the story, but emerge as an intrinsic part of it.
The nudity and sex are handled so well and so non-Hollywood, the bodies are fleshy and get sweaty and muddy, although the "raindrops keep falling on my head" scene is a little smirk inducing!
Very worth seeing indeed.
