"You"
Yeah, I'm the one using a late, unlamented racist southern gov to shore up my arguments.
"Not THAT George Wallace, doofus. Trap sprung. LOL."
I am here to learn. Just who is this mental giant with the unfortunate luck to be saddled with the same moniker as one of the most despicable politicians of the twentieth century. And, apparently, had the wherewithal to rise above that sad happenstance. Somehow, I feel you're trying to toss clinkers on the coal pile with words like "trap sprung", LOL, and of course, "doofus".
And speaking of "doofus", come on. What's next, meeting out by the bike racks after school?
"Besides, I'm talking about one statement which you can only fluster about. Address that or shut up. Always stick to the subject and you'll appear more credible."
Are you sure you know how this whole 'internets' thing works? I was referring to your statement quoted here:
"As to displays of superiority, intelligence and so on, I'm reminded of a George Wallace story when he faced a room full of reporters. One asked him, sarcastically, if he felt he was the smartest man in the world. Wallace replied, "No, but I am sure as hell the smartest man in this room."
Credibility, yes indeed, as in taking responsibility for your own writing.
Try it, it'll feel oh-so-good.
"Metaphor. Look it up. And go to a real dictionary, not your usual Wiki trip."
Maybe I need a little more context, or a bit of explanation, but are you now saying that you see George Wallace, not just the man but the name alone as a metaphor for a higher realm of thinking? As in, to paraphrase L. Frank Baum's Scarecrow, "If I only had a George Wallace"?
We are still talking about your GW quote, right?
Or do you mean my Dahmer reference. Actually, more of a simile. Sorry.
Or, is this just your helpfully supplying me with a list of new words, in an effort to 'increase my word power'. If so, thanks for the kind consideration, but I'm good to go, I try to work the Times crossword several times a week (and, yes, I'll admit, usually Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. What can I say, doing the best I can)
As far as "Wiki trip", is that a nice beach to go to when you get to Hawaii?
"By the way, I enjoyed your comments about "Rescue Dawn". I think Christian Bale is becoming a big league film actor. He's in this new western "3:10 To Yuma". I'm ready for a good western, how about you?"
Thanks. Let's get this bullshit settled and we can talk about actual movies. Who knew that the kid from 'Empire of the Sun' would end up being noticed, not for being passed-out drunk in front of The Viper Room, but for studying his craft? (As an aside, "Empire..." was a greatly underrated movie.)
And I'd enjoy a nice conversation about "3:10 to Yuma". You know, one of the great western titles (tells a story in four words), a really good Western in it's first iteration (Glenn Ford as a bad guy, and of course the steady Van Heflin, who apparently was Hollywood's go-to guy when you needed a salt-of-the-earth, high-morals dirt farmer) and, yeah, has me looking forward to the new one. I'm not saying I'm as giddy as clarkjohnsen in a new communion dress, but I'm pretty excited nonetheless.
