Cillian Murphy, I think we can all agree, doesn't make much of a leading, heroic figure. Neither did the actor portraying Tommy. And so the effort is doomed.
The love story with Sinead? I've seen two puppies exhibit more passion.
The cinematographer couldn't figure out what a close-up was, either, framing almost all "action" from afar and achieving the not easily done result of making the Irish countryside banal.
Mind you, I'm 1/4 Irish and I'm still upset at the English presence in N. Ireland...
