The morning after seeing Year Of The Dog, we took my girlfriend's kids to see Underdog a Disney live action film about a sniffer dog embarrassed by a bad smell-out and later turned into a mild mannered dog with superpowers by an evil scientist playing with DNA. How far we have come from Kryptonite! Actually I think a number of scenes are copied from the first Superman film, but it's a one trick doggie of a joke.
Many kids' films these days have lots of stuff for the adults in them. This isn't one of them. Unfortunately it also seems to have little for the kids.
Looking round the audience there was a complete lack of interest in anything going on on the screen.
The jokes were lame at best and the doubling of the love interest (teen girl reporter with cute dog) was somewhere beyond a joke (but nowhere near a joke).
Instead of taking your kids to this, buy them more chocolate. They will enjoy it more and it was about as much fun as having teeth pulled anyway.
