Last summer I saw Meet the Robinsons. It would have been a completely forgettable kids movie, but I saw the 3-D version. The visuals were, at times, spectacular. The old-fashioned 3-D was represented by a preview of a 50s era Disney cartoon. Back in those days, there were flat planes, but Meet the Robinsons was continuous all the way up to your face to way into the screen. It was memorable.
I also saw the recent 3-D version of Nightmare Before Christmas. In this case, probably because the movie was not originally 3-D, the effects were much more subtle and less memorable.
I doubt I will see Beowulf in any case. But if I get dragged to it, it will be the 3-D version.
