...I think his greatness is magnificently cinematic. I also suspect that you post this largely to be provocative, because you know so many people will disagree with you; to me there's significant evidence of your affection for this tactic in the aggregate of your initiating posts. It's not your opinion that's a problem for me; of course you don't have to like Bergman. Rather it's the tone and self regard that comes through to me in how you express yourself.

In other words, in my opinion what you're saying is actually silly in the context of the general regard of Bergman's work around the world. The inescapable implication of your comment is that he's not only not "great," but he's only so-so or worse. If he's really that un-filmic how could he be even a good filmmaker? Your assertion requires that countless others who hold his work in such high regard would be somehow *wrong*. It just doesn't get you or the discussion anywhere interesting.
