I just look for more than wiz-bang special effects. Ya gotta have a plot, characters that you can connect with, (be they good or evil), and some sort of resolution. Some films get so convoluted in their attempt to do one of the above, or they replace their ability to do one of the above with special effects, that the film falls down and fails to deliver. This is not to say that you can't be satisfied with plot and character development failures, only that those films aren't for me. I wish I liked "The Matrix" and "The Fifth Element".
