It was a different kind of Nazi violence than I'm accustomed to seeing... a more biker gang or baltic death squad kind of thing (as opposed to the - of course - horribly brutal but more cooly efficient killing and culling machine seen in other films). Those Waffen-SS units in the SE were just beyond the beyond in terms of brutality... and from what I read many of them were called in to quell the Warsaw uprising.I thought the filmakers did an amazing job of trying to get us to feel (just the tiniest, tiniest bit... but that's a lot) what it might have felt like to be in that madness.
As you pointed out there was great use of sound and camera work in bringing that feeling to life.
Hard film to watch but glad I did.
