for his role, he's literally sleep walking his way through most of it
I'd describe Come and See as the most powerful Anti-war film as it doesn't glorify the characters or their situation ( not the usual jingoistic dapper chaps doing daring deeds *rubbish* that constitutes war films )

The Winter War ( Finnish film, Pekka Parikka dir. ) also falls into the same ( rare ) category of believability, I see Amazon have this on DVD, + concerns the earlier Russian invasion of Finland
