This 1920s something film is a riveting portrayal of the trial and exectution of Joan of Arc. There is a beautiful DVD version out of the fully restored film which was considered virtually lost until sometime in the 1980s when a nearly pristine print was discovered in a closet somewhere in Denmark. The French actress playing Joan gives one of the greatest acting performances of all time. You watch the film either with silence or with a music soundtrack written by a fan of the film with cues for each scene. I had the CD of this music, which features the singing group Anonymous 4, many years before I got the movie, but must say I do not care much for it. When I viewed the film, I had the soundtrack on, but at a very low volume so it wouldn't distract too much from the film itself. Some people rave about the music, but I find it less than compelling if not downright repelling at times. Anyway, the film makes most lists of the top ten greatest movies of all time and certainly deserves it.
