A very, very entertaining film which I had resisted seeing because of "serious" hype.
It's all very--- and far too--- self-consciously grandiose, of course, with tension ratcheted up quite soon and simultaneous plot stories entertwined and kept boiling throughout--- but because of the well-drawn characters, antagoinst and protagonist, it works.
The cinematography, which should have been terrific because of the setting, merely was journeyperson-quality.
The principal male lead was fantastic, however, with an ability to command attention and interest with very little verbalization: a guy to watch, certainly.
S P O I L E R:
The endless chase at the end seemed VERY similar to that in "Road Warrior," without the mechanized vehicles. It wasn't as interestingly filmed, unfortunately, nor was it very imaginative: I kept waiting for the waterfall scene and wasn't disappointed (or, rather, I was...).
Still, it wasn't miserably done though running that far with one serious wound is stretching it; having him get a SECOND serious wound was a bit much.
