I have always liked Brit Crime as they just have a way of making it a bit more real, even when it's fun. The Bank Job is based on an actual crime in 1970 and the film has a lot of nice 70's touches giving it the feel of the time.
The story revolves around a Brit secret service plot to get back compromising photos of a "Royal" held by a black supremest (Michael X) living in London. X was using them as blackmail to avoid criminal prosecutions and posed a very dual threat in his criminal behavior and a potential PR disaster for the Queen.
Jason Statham is contacted by an old neighborhood flame, Saffron Burroughs, and is put onto the possibility of pulling a "sure thing". The movie starts out light but soon after the heist it turns a bit dark with the with the gang being pursued by the police, a gangster, and MI-6.
This is light weight fare but I found it highly entertaining.
Go do some popcorn.
