The problem I have with Welles is that for me, he carries an aura of self importance which makes whatever he says sound like a self promoting performance.
The dramatic pauses, intonation and emphasis give me the impression he spent many hours perfecting his speeches in front of the mirror, followed by blowing a kiss to himself and a little "God, you're brilliant!" wink.
