I usually check the "tomatometer" reading at www.rottentomatoes.com before spending my money.
In the case of 88 Minutes, there are 5 "fresh" reviews (recommending the movie) versus 81 "rotten" reviews, yielding a tomatometer reading of 6%:
In such a lopsided situation, the tomatometer reading is highly reliable.
