Just bought the DVD. I sort of figured it'd be a real amateurish low budget snoozer, but it wasn't. I really enjoyed it. They kept the monster a mystery until the end. In fact, in the very last shot, you see where the monster came from.

The commentary was interesting. With a handheld camera, or a simulated handheld at times, it made adding the digital special effects very challenging. Nice job with a virtually unknown cast. It goes to show you, the big stars are just lucky. The three Easter eggs are bizarre.

The film cost 25M to produce, and grossed 42M the first weekend. Yep, there's a sequel in the works.

To keep the film's content a secret, the casting was done with phony scripts. One actress went with it just because the producers were those of the "Lost" show. She hated the movie when she found out what it was, an action film. She got beat up and injured during the filming and hated it. It showed up in her performance, very bitter and sarcastic. Fortunately her character got killed so there's no worry of trying to lure her back.

We'll have to agree to disagree about human caused global warming until the next global cooling scare comes along.
