It wasn't bad but I felt 1 and 3 were the best and number four was kind of a draw with number 2.
Having a big ball almost kill you is still somewhat credible - locking yourself in a fridge and surviving a nuclear blast is silly. And what was with the gophers. Despite the brutal beginning it got better - good action sequences a bit of humour sprinkled in - dopey plot but Alien skulls is just as believable as any religious item having powers. John Hurt was kind of wasted and Cate Blanchet was one note.
For me it felt tired - as tired as Indy looked.
Raiders is one of my top 20 movies of all time and set the standard for this genre - foreign or domestic. The Last Crusade was the perfect ending riding off into the sunset and a solid entertaining re-watchable sequel. Number 4 I can't say I'd ever want to see again. However I will see it again because I HATED number 2 the first time and it has grown on me a lot over the years.
Perhaps I was TOO hyped to see number 4 and it couldn't possibly live up to my expectations and hope. So I'll pick it up used on DVD and give it another go in about 6 months to a year.
