The political climate in Tehran was scary as hell and the religious police were off the leash. Her parents were scared to death that her questioning of her teacher and other antics would get her placed in a detention house or worse. Her mother was in tears because she knows what happens to girls there who show disrespect or are too free spirited. That's why they sent her to school in Vienna. One of the great gifts of that movie is that it delivers a clearer picture of what life is like in Iran within a framework those of us in the west can actually understand. At least I hope you understand, tin.
