brilliant. Like all true classics, something new and exciting is noticed each time. At S P O I L E R
the dinner table one night in the castle, Hutter's cameo of his wife is noticed by Count Orloff. He then becomes obsessed with Ellen. I never realized how much of a dual love story this was until I paid close attention to the last minutes of Orloff's life, his almost protective posture with Ellen.
The economy of the story-telling is unmatched and this concentration of powerful imagery, undiluted by excess, gives the film an almost unmatched impact.
