"The Browning Version" : A Classic that Never Loses Its Power

I pulled out my old tape of this film, and once again I was blown over by Michael Redgrave's performance.
For anyone who hasn't seen this film, definitely give it a chance. It's B/W British drama, rather 'stagey' if you are only used to newer films, but Redgrave's portrayal of the hated, broken professor with his own crushing grief hidden behind his frosty manners is just devastating.

The one scene where he finally gives in to his pain will make anyone weep.

I put this in the league of Emil Jannings in 'The Blue Angel.'

I know it has been remade, and kudos to Albert Finney for tackling the role, but I have yet to bring myself to watch it.

Not a cheerful film, but an unforgettable one.
