THis film has been nominated for a hatful of awards but there must be two version because the one I saw last night is impossibly bad.
The film opens to a most unlikely scene involving the most extreme bad acting.
We were told that bthe young boy hired for the male lead was only 15 and they had to wait 3 years for him to have a sex scene with KW.
I think actually it was for the smoking.
He must have been worried about his prospects after this film!
The entire film revolves around the ridiculous idea that when KW's character is prosecuted for being in the SS, no one, not her solicitor, not the police, not the judges notices that she cannot read.
And the young boy cannot bring himself to tell anyone.
Sums up the film really.
He has a family then they disappear.
He has university friends then they disappear.
He has a wife but oooh, there she is... gone.
His daughter reappears at the end when he doesn't explain anything.
An absolute waste of time and money.
In fact this film is more than distasteful as its message seems to be that people with reading difficulties are easily manipulated and stupid.
Avoid this film.
