The plane "landing" and the aftermath were quite convincing. As was the train wreck, etc. The space ships however were a bit cheesy IMO, as was for that matter the last part of the movie. It reminded me of the Friends episode where Joey is doing a serious play and is suddenly taken away by a spaceship (comedy). I actually chuckled a bit.
I see Brian A's points to some degree, but maybe they were not aliens, just looked like aliens...? The movie insinuates that Nick believes in God at the end (together forever with mom). Yet aliens take the kids away (and yes, why not just take the kids, why go through all the trouble, but then we wouldn't have a movie :)). So, are they supposed to be aliens or angels? Anyone?
Overall, I enjoyed the movie.
