action-film paced. But be patient for the first fifteen minutes and it will work its magic. Filmed with amateur actors, picked from the inhabitants of the area in which it was filmed. Pasolini was a genius and this film is a masterwork.
I'd also put, "Christ Stopped at Eboli," in this same class. How can a modern man live the true teachings of Jesus? Volonté, best known as Chico in the Eastwood spaghetti westerns, shows he was unsurpassed as a serious actor in his day. Truly, one of the screen's best performances.
