and was puzzled by the vitriol in many of the reviews (claiming that the either/both the film makers and character's were self important, precious and came across like they were better than everyone else).

I didn't see it that way at all.

I thought it was funny and poignant and heartfelt with moments of beautiful sadness (like in the club in Montreal).

It was by far my favorite Sam Mendes effort (Dave Eggers too).

Stupidity is NOT a victimless crime.
